I don't like Mondays...part 2

So, here I am, looking good -- hair turned out great, makeup looks good, outfit is snazzy. I'm just waiting for Hubby to get here so I can leave.

6:30 comes and goes. So does 6:45.

Hubby walks in at 7 pm. That's okay, I tell hime. Not a big deal. This is a busy time for him at work. He plans on taking the girls out to dinner, so we all have fun plans for the evening.

I'm finally off, ready for my Ladies' Night Out.

As I approach the downtown where the restaurant is, I am greeting by the most expansive lighting decoration that I have ever seen. Each building in this downtown is curtained with a different color of light, in the form of many strands of lights starting at the roof and heading to the ground. They just go on and on and on. And so does the traffic.

What should take me 2 minutes has now taken me 15 minutes, which, in the normal scheme of things, is not a big deal. But since I am already half an hour late, I am a bit anxious. I find a parking spot and head to the restaurant. I approach the hostess and tell her that I am meeting a group of friends, the reservation was for 7 pm, for about 8 women. She leads me to the first room, where I scan and do not recognize anyone. Next room, same thing. Last room, no one I know.

At this point, I am quite confused. I ask if they have another restaurant in the downtown area. Nope.

I whip out my cell phone, and I curse myself for not updating it with everyone's home and cell numbers. I try A's home phone number, hoping to reach A's husband who, I hope, can shed some light on the situation. Answering machine. I leave a message...I don't know why. Next, I call the only other person at the dinner whose number I have: P's cell phone. Great! She always has it on her.

P answers, I tell her it's me. "Are you at the restaurant with everyone?"
P: "Yes."
Me: "Where is it at?" (Forgive me of my terrible grammar, but at this point, I DON'T CARE!!!)
P: "It's at 16 and Evergreen." (Aha -- I'm at Main and 3rd.)
Me: "So it's been changed from K&M?"
P: long pause "Lisa, that's not until NEXT Monday."

Perfect.

Not all is lost, however. I'm all dressed up (well, not dress up, but YKWIM), Hubby and the girls are out, I've got alone time. Whatever shall I do????

I get in the car and mull over my options. At this point A calls me back and we have a laugh at my expense. I decide that I would walk around some wonderful store and treat myself to a dinner out. I drive a few miles and I see one of my favorite eating places, one that I haven't been to in quite a while. I pull into the parking lot.

"Welcome to Taco Bell. May I take your order?"

Yes, isn't that pathetic. I order my usual: 2 Meximelts minus the salsa and a Large Pepsi, light on the ice. I splurge and also order a Cinnamon Apple Empanada. YUM!

After my gourmet meal, I saunter into one of my favorite shopping haunts. Target. Man, I love that dollar spot!

I get a few stocking stuffers for the girls and a couple of cool things for the kitchen and head home. I ponder aloud what I should do, as the rest of my family is still out. I debate painting my nails. Nah, I got in my pjs and started this blog.

Ten minutes later, the troop comes home. Oh, well. So much for my big night out!!!!

I don't like Mondays ...

Why is it that on the days you need to get things done, it seems every favorite movie of yours is ont TV?? And by favorites, I mean those movies that you are compelled to watch, no matter when it is on, or what part of the movie it is at, no matter how many times you may have seen said movie, you.must.watch.it.

Today, it happened to me.

But let's back it up, shall we?

The day started off like any other weekday. Alarm goes off, slam the snooze button. Big Sis comes in and snuggles for a while. We get up and I help Big Sis get ready for school. Baby girl is still sleeping after Hubby and Big Sis are gone, so I figure I'd check e-mail and get a WHOLE lot done.

What is that saying about well laid plans??

Baby girl (who is actually 4 years old) gets up and shuffles into the kitchen where I am. It's now 9 am.

Somehow, I find myself snuggling with Baby Girl on the couch. It's so hard not to -- it's like a magnetic pull. So, after a while, I get up and glance at the clock.

11:35. Perfect.

Okay, so I'm up and busy now. I don't even bother getting dressed, that's how busy I am. But that's not unusual for me. I'm making phone calls, and finishing the Christmas decorating all while doing laundry and keeping Baby Girl entertained. While doing the laundry, I turn the TV on. 'The Devil Wears Prada' is on. Love this movie! Read the book and loved it too. I leave it on to pass the time, as it's almost over. Load is finished, so is the movie. I check the TV listings and there it is.

'Field of Dreams.' GOD I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! So naturally, I am compelled to watch it. It's 2/3 through anyway, so I drink it in. I have some sewing to do anyway.

Okay, movie is over, sewing is done. I reallllllly need to get to house cleaning and whatnot, but I find myself checking the TV listings again.

Dagnab it! 'Legends of the Fall' is on. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME???? I have so much work to do! I watch about 20 minutes of it, and snap out of it. TV off, there is work to be done!

It's getting close to the time when Big Sis gets home on the school bus, so I make sure the garage door is open for her. About the time she should be waltzing in, I get a phone call. It's the dentist office calling about making our cleaning appointments. I'm on the phone with them, when the call waiting beeps and I see that it's Big Sis's school. I switch over, and it's the school secretary.

"Lisa, this is Secretary from School. Big Sis is fine, it's just that she missed the bus. Can you come and pick her up?"

Looking down at my pj's, I say "Sure. Be right there." So I make our dentist appointments, rush to get dressed, and race up to school.

In an hour, I must drive both girls to swim class. After that, I have plans to meet friends for dinner, so Hubby says he'll be home early. Dinner is at 7, Hubby usually gets home at 6:30, so I imagine he'll be home by 6.

Swimming class comes and goes, and I'm anxious to get home and head to an adult dinner with my friends. I have on a cute pair of jeans, so I plan on changing my top, add accessories, etc. When the girls are done, we head into one of the bathrooms so they can change, as well as go potty. I am helping Big Sis change, and Baby Girl goes potty.

Now, I must explain that Baby Girl has an aiming problem. She pees like a racehorse, and when she does, it doesn't always just go down. Sometimes it goes out. See where I'm going with this?

Spots of piddle on my jeans. Perfect.

So now we're home, and I change my entire outfit (thanks Baby Girl!), and the girls are playing until Hubby gets home. He calls and says he's leaving, be home soon. I estimate his time of arrival at 6:30. Plenty of time to get to the restaurant.

And it just keeps getting better ...

Hello!

Welcome to my life.

My name is Lisa, and I've started this blog as a sort of diary for me. I used to keep one when I was younger, but nothing happened in my life that was worth noting, so I stopped writing in it.

Now, I am a wife, mother, friend, neighbor, Brownie troop leader, Fundraising Chairperson, and my life is FAR from boring. Oh, it still can be uneventful, in the usual sense of the word. But SOMETHING is always happening...

I'm sure I will ramble at times, and if someone reads this, great! I hope you are entertained my by chaotic life. For me, it's just a way to get all my random thoughts out of my head ... so I can fill my head with more pressing matters, like what to make for dinner, is tonight bath night? That sort of thing.

So, again, Welcome to my life!
